Yield/Hectare: 6,000 kg
The vineyard and harvest:
Vines are trained with single cordon. Two parcels of vineyard with vine age averaging 20 years with an exposition of the first to the south and the other southwest.
Soil medium clay with calcareous features.
The grape is 100% Montepulciano, hand picked on October 4, 2013, de-stemmed and crushed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in oaken tanks followed by a maceration of 7 days. After pressing, racked twice to remove the lees an then placed in oak barrels of 228 liters for 24 months. Assemblage after careful tasting of each individual barrel and bottled January 4, 2013.
In the nose one initially senses woody notes and as it opens, emerging perfumes of blackberry and mature cherries are followed by juniper, pepper and agreeable spicy notes.
On the palate, the wine is dense and profound and evolves in a velvety manner on the tongue and then demonstrates its fruity heart and a great intensity. The tannins are ordery and the acidity is well balanced giving the wine a long, dynamic impact of flavors which on the finish return to blackberry and spice notes.
If one doesn’t have a plate of lamb available, try this wine with seitan (wheat gluten) al Montepulciano with mushrooms and artichokes.
Analysis:
Label: designed by artist Carlo Marchetti, it shows the “Bove Finto”, a characteristic representation of the Offida Carneval.

The vineyard and harvest:
Vines are trained with single cordon. Two parcels of vineyard with vine age averaging 19 years with an exposition of the first to the south and the other southwest.
Soil medium clay with calcareous features.
The grape is 100% Montepulciano, hand picked on September 2012, de-stemmed and crushed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in oaken tanks followed by a maceration of 15 days. After pressing, racked twice to remove the lees an then placed in oak barrels of 228 liters for 24 months. Assemblage after careful tasting of each individual barrel and bottled February 2015.
Color is dark and compact with violet undertones.
In nose it at first slow to open and deep but after opening one senses notes of dried prunes followed by spicy sweet aromas and a touch of chocolate.
In the mouth it looms large with dry and voluminous flavors, slightly “wrinkled”, and reaches its peak slowly but then closes with a very persistent finish and pruney, spicy flavors and a pleasantly nuanced balsamic note.
It merits a few years of waiting as it will improve with age. Because of its volume and structure it will pair well with red meats, but with a dozen arrosticini, it will really bring your dish up to another level!

Montepulciano: The origin of this variety of “black” berries has always been uncertain, it is often confused with Sangiovese, probably because of the existence of the Tuscan town of the same name. Those who have studied it, like Molon (1906) classified it as a Sangioveti. Today it is certain the 2 varieties have nothing in common. It is most commonly cultivated in Abruzzo, Le Marche and other central/south Adriatic regions.
It has many names, such as Montepulcian of Abruzzo, Primaticcio, Cordisco etc. Today, thanks to the excellent work of some producers and winemakers, Montepulciano has risen to become one of the red wines of highest quality. Montepulciano prefers a hot, dry climate with a sun drenched exposition to guarantee a good and regular maturation of the grapes. When it is vinified by itself, the wine is guaranteed to be of high quality, good for aging while at the same time improving wines of other varieties when blended and can provide aromas similar to some bordeaux wines.
